B. Ajay Sharma is an Indian visual artist born in 1986 in Deoghar, Jharkhand. He received his BFA in Painting from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and his MFA in Painting from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. Sharma is known for his multidisciplinary approach to art, encompassing drawing, painting, sculpture, video, sound, performance and installation.
Sharma's work often explores themes of socio-political landscapes, the corporeality of the body and the phenomenology of death, drawing on Indian and Buddhist philosophies. His performances and installations frequently explore the relationship between the body, space and time, with the aim of creating layered and immersive experiences for the audience. In 2018, he launched the Open Source performance practice and documentation 'In_Process', which focuses on the interaction between performative actions and their spatial contexts.
Sharma has exhibited his work internationally and participated in various artist residencies, including a significant stint at the Resonator Institute in Norman, Oklahoma. Notable works include the video project "Motherland and Other Stories" and the exhibition "Residue of Performative Acts".
